A gene mutation that makes a woman three times more likely to develop ovarian cancer has been discovered. A new marker can predict a woman’s chances of developing the disease if she carries a BRIP1 mutation. Scientists hope this discovery will pave the way for a new genetic test which will detect this difficult-to-diagnose disease. Ovarian cancer –often called “a silent killer”- is responsible for more deaths than any other gynecological cancer.
